Hi Sunny! I missed you! I finally had a chance to watch the Screaming Skull (well, a few weeks ago while I was sick, before I left on a trip). You are so right about many of the parallels, and (with great trepidation) I am starting to recognize the possibility of an Amnesiac Sookie. I hate to think it, but I do see the validity of this as a possible plot device. My favorite character was actually Mickey – I saw him as Terry for sure. Didn’t that actor actually direct the movie? In any case, if your theory comes true – expect Terry to be Bill’s scapegoat for all his eveil deeds!!
Hey Skarlove, missed you too! I saw the pics of your trip at SVB’s–LOVE the Rune Stones.
In any case, if your theory comes true – expect Terry to be Bill’s scapegoat for all his eveil deeds!!
Totally agreed! I’m glad you picked that up. Some while ago, Renee and I were discussing the possibility that Arlene would be murdered (by Bill) and Terry would take the fall. The parallels with this movie make me more certain than ever that Terry is going to be Bill’s scapegoat.
Ok, renamed this section so we can collect all of the light stuff we see referenced on TB. If at all possible, limit contributions in all sections to movies that can be found online. Thanks!
Elvira Mistress of the Dark. Not one for propriety is she lol. You have to remember this movie. “Is this face taken?” is probably one of the most vulgar lines in PG-13 history.
This is for you Sunny. Before you watch this I want you to rewatch the opening scene with Tara in the Pilot make note of everything said, Tara’s reaction, and the outfit of the woman who comes into the store. It’s in 10 parts and it takes up too much space so I’m only posting the first link. They are all in the pull down list right below the title.
Omigoodness. I didn’t even notice curlers! Thanks Bobsgran. This came on in October. When I saw that scene I immediately knew what it was. There are so many references. The picnic orgy, the guy who didn’t remember molesting a sheep. Mike spencer much? haha She’s attracted to a not-too-bright guy who doesn’t notice. Doesn’t Jason drive a black pickup? Chastity Pariah (what a name) being turned into a pig. Elvira going Rambo like Jason S2. I wonder if they’re done using this film?
Help me out here. Didn’t someone say that Tara’s rp char on twitter said something about going to Nevada? If she did I’d be all over the floor laughing. One could only hope.
Rutina is a trained dancer from Las, Vegas Nevada! Aah! Officially excited but let me not get my hopes up. haha
I finally got a chance watch the rest of this…It does look a lot like Gran’s kitchen, BG, and the dog shifting to a mouse to get out of jail,,,I think I’m going to have a hard time watching Sam and not picturing him with a pink mohawk.
Did the scene with the uncle down in his basement remind anyone of Jesus’s abuelo? And Elvira getting her funny uncle’s inheritance and using it to finance a trip out of town…
So the villain of the piece, Vincent, has the book of spells and he got it through chicanery. Does this foretell Bill being able to harness/utilize magic because he’s somehow gotten control of a witch for his own misuse?
I’m late to the party and still haven’t finished the movie, but I couldn’t wait any longer to chime in.
ROTFL! Now I can put my mind at rest from wondering where the inspiration for La La’s fabuloso leapard print convertible came from and…Is it wrong of me to notice that the gas station attendant, shifting in his chair to release presser, closely resembles the Viking doing the same to relieve a different sort of pressure?
The whole thing is simply delicious. Have to watch it again to try and catch more stuff. Didn’t catch the resemblance of the gas station attendant. I was laughing too much.
LOL,”Patti’s” Tidy Bowl! The only thing that would have made it better on TB is if they’d called it “Patty’s Pie Hole” lol.(sorry, just getting to part 2. This is hilarious!)
I’ve only watched part one so far but the similarities in Elvira’s car and the camera shots showing it and Snoop Dogg’s “Oh Sookie” video are spot on! Too similar to be a coincidence. The cars themselves are different (although they look alike to me) but the shot of the car stereo and the rear view mirror with the garlic cloves hanging from them are the same, also the shots of the cars pulling into/away from the view of the camera with the California license plates are very similar. This is really crazy.
Just to refresh memories, Tara and Eggs were watching The Screaming Skull in “Release Me”.
~~~
The narrative portion of the film begins as newlyweds Jenni and Eric return to Eric’s palatial country home. Jenni is Eric’s second wife; his first wife Marion died when she hit her head and drowned in a decorative pond on the estate. At the home they meet Eric’s friends, the Reverend and Mrs. Snow, as well as Mickey, the eccentric and patchily-bearded gardener, played by the director, Alex Nicol.
When she begins to hear unexplained screaming noises and see unexplained skulls around her house, Jenni begins to believe the ghost of Marion is haunting her. However, it is also revealed that Jenni has spent time in an asylum, that she has a great personal fortune Eric would inherit if she died, and that Mickey the gardener dislikes Jenni (and, moreover, was childhood friends with Eric’s first wife). Possible explanations of the film’s central mystery seem fourfold:
Is Eric behind the skulls and screams, driving Jenni to suicidal madness to get her money?
Is the screaming skull a “real” ghost?
Is Mickey behind the skulls and screams, driving Jenni away out of a general dislike?
Is it all in Jenni’s unstable mind?
As the haunting continues, the first possibility is proved to be true, as the audience sees Eric planting a skull and then pretending to see nothing when Jenni points out that a skull is present. Eric’s tactics begin to look like they will be effective, as Jenni is increasingly unnerved.
However, in subsequent scenes, it is revealed that the real ghost of Marion, who was murdered by Eric, is out to get him. Aware that his plans are unraveling, Eric prepares a noose and then throttles Jenni with his bare hands. But the ghost of Marion interrupts him, dressed in the clothes of his ex-wife. In the final scenes of the film, Eric is pursued by ghostly screaming skulls into the decorative pond where a skull (presumably of Marion) bites his neck and kills him. Jenni survives her strangulation and is initially traumatized by the experience, but leaves the house soberly in the company of the Reverend and Mrs. Snow.
This movie reference is the main reason I believe Sookie will be the one with amnesia, she will be held prisoner in Bill’s creepy old house, and he will be ‘gaslighting’ her even more than he already has. I’m hoping for the appearance of the vengeful ghost of Caroline!
Nice! Bored as I was I watched the entire movie. There’s a simple rule here ladies; Never
Never Never Marry a Man that ( for whatever reason) 1.Cannot Manage to Turn the Utilities
On. 2. Cannot Afford Furniture. 3. Stays Away All Night Just After You Marry. 4. And Tries
to Choke the Life Out of You. Was “Mickey” the director? Really? Who did that soundtrack?
I was sure that the Rev and Mrs Snow were on to Eric and gave him a taste of his own medicine,
maybe Marion got her revenge in the end. As Mr Bill sought out Sookie for her gifts, this guy
sought out Jenni because of her previous emotional instability or perceived history of it. The
planned intent to harm or manipulate an individual for a $ and/or a business gain is nasty
stuff. It stings even more when you’re betrayed by someone you trust, really letting your
guard down. Aside from these assertions and especially Bill Compton mind fucking Sookie
where then comes the parallel (?) of Sookie being held captive ( of her fragile mind? in Bill’s
house as an amnesiac?). Since he cannot glamour her to warn of staying on the premises
during the daylight , how does that work? Is she to believe only him, her saviour? Franklin
Mott may have tried that on Tara but Sookie? I suppose Mr Ball’s imagination is any thing goes but I hope Sookie and Jenni share nothing in common except being misunderstood. I thought
Jenni acted quite rational and asked all the right questions when confronted with the truth,
albeit in the end.
Sookie may be immune from glamour but just like anyone else she is susceptible to ‘all forms of thought manipulation’. And no doubt, like many people she’s also susceptible to good old hypnosis techniques, with all that implies, including implanted false memories, ‘trigger’ words to behave in certain ways, perform certain actions, and believe all sorts of impossible things. etc. These processes have been helped along by the fact that she’s been fed copious amounts of a mind-altering drug. She’s in a bad, bad way but I too hope she will come to ask all the right questions, finally.
3×03 Lou Pine’s Scene
3×06 Sookie’s Rant at Eric
3×06 Jason’s outfit at Crystal’s place
3×12 Tara’s hair cut and small talk with Sookie
De-lurking, for now. Tough movie. So many similarities with this season. Don’t skip all of part 9. That explains Sookie’s behavior at the were bar. Sarah and Sookie were both there because of a fight with their douche boyfriends being reckless. And If only that article explained all the melodrama. I did find it interesting in the real story the guys started to come after her. I guess that would be Cooter coming after Tara, the guy in the truck picking her up would be Alcide, and that, while drunk, got into a car crash years like Tara S1 near the same age. I’m not sure what you meant by “doubters”. But besides not helping Tara where does Bill, Jason, Eric fit in?
I did anna, a few years ago. Johnny was fabulous in it.
OT. Sunny again. I forgot to mention I noticed another checkerboard floor, if you still need that info. Sam and Daphne are making out on the pool table. The floor under the pool table is checkerboard.
Thanks for that BG! I have been SO reluctant to re-view season 2 because I have watched so many times I feel green nausea coming on when I tell myself I MUST go back over some of the eps. LOL.
I think I’m going to save all the reviewing for the holidays and like you take it in small doses but with a large drink or two.
I’ve just discovered this very surreal site dedicated to Ed Wood called the Church of Ed Wood http://www.edwood.org/
he says that the film Plan 9 changed his life… it’s quite bizarre but full of odd links to other B movies.
I’m going to blame this on anna. She convinced me to have a large drink or two when reviewing s2, not that I needed a lot of convincing. LOL
Ep. 2:09 I Will Rise Up: Godric is on the roof of the hotel with Sookie. He prepares to meet the sun, removing his tunic he faces the dawn and drops the tunic. If you were Sookie, would you not have picked up the tunic to possibly give to Eric? Could it be a talisman of some kind? Where did it go?
What happened to The Shroud of Dallas?
Like I said, it’s anna’s fault *hee-hee*.
I don’t know! I had hoped she would pick it up and give it to Eric, and I still hope she did but who knows with Sookie. Sometimes she’s a thoughtful darling and other times she’s an inconsiderate bumble head.
Whatever the dark side does, the light side does but with a different motivation. If the dark keep souvenirs, the light will keep relics
Totally agreed. This is where discernment comes in. Where BL’s see moral equivalency between E/B because some of their acts look the same, they are failing to look into the true hearts of these characters and come to an understanding of who they really are.
Sam/Bill/Sookie
“Stanley Ipkiss is a bank clerk. Unfortunately, he is too nice for his own good and is a pushover when it comes to confrontations. He finds a mask that depicts Loki, the Norse night god of mischief. The mask leaves its wearer ridden of all inhibitions, giving them an alternate personality, doing things they would not normally do. When he puts it on, he becomes his inner, self: a cartoony romantic wild man but it also drives him to rob banks. A small time crime boss, Dorian Tyrel comes across the character dubbed “The Mask” and after Ipkiss’s alter ego indirectly kills his friend in crime, Tyrel now wants this green-faced goon destroyed.
Stanley later finds out the mask only works at night. When Dorian get hold of the mask he becomes a more demonic version of himself.
While wearing the mask he can also manipulate the actions of others and, not to anyone’s surprise, he makes everyone dance. haha All the while chasing after Tina, Dorian’s girlfriend, that he only has the guts to approach while wearing the mask. Until she falls in love with his true self.
Me too. This came on on after WoO and I was half awake through it. They mentioned TCM but Encore plays a good bit of the films TB includes. It certainly takes away part of the confusion of the show for me.
You know, this might be where the idea came from to have Bill and Sookie’s brows vanish so they become unrecognizable (H/T Anna when they are acting totally out of character.
When Bill comes into Merlotte’s and passes himself off as mainstreaming
When Sookie rashly gives herself to a man she doesn’t know
When Bill’s at the hospital pretending to be a concerned bf
When Sookie has to go to someone else (Eric) for info about someone’s real motivations
Trust me you haven’t seen anything yet. But I’m waiting til January to rent it again and upload it myself. Must see. I have another I want to put up today but I don’t know if I should wait and not put so many up at once. It is officially my favorite line from a char. that I believe to be Tara. I still haven’t stopped laughing.
Amil, what’s the significance of ‘About Last Night’? I saw it way back when but darned if the only thing I remember about it is Jim Belushi’s character telling Rob Lowe’s character that his problem was he was prettier than all the girls. LOL. Ahh, Andy said that to Jason didn’t he?
“The film stars Rob Lowe as Danny and Demi Moore as Debbie (Who had a no strings relationship with her boss). The pair meet and engage in a torrid sexual relationship, but then slowly negotiate if there is anything more between them. Danny seeks advice from his loudmouthed friend Bernie who offers little more than outrageous tales of his randy exploits. Debbie confides in her best friend Joan, a bitter, straight shooting, single kindergarten teacher who has lost any hope of finding the right person on the dating scene especially after finding out that her latest was married and going back to his wife. Although Danny and Debbie talk, they have trouble communicating. The film ends on a coda that suggests the pair is still unsure as to where their relationship may be headed.”
This was referenced by Sam and Tara in 1.04 the day after their get together. Debbie and Joan switch off at times between Sookie and Tara but I would say that Debbie is mainly Sookie and Joan would be the *itch on wheels (movie quote) friend that Debbie’s boyfriend does not like. Danny would be Sam and Bernie could be Liam’s best friend. Oh yeah, Danny also opens a restaurant. Tara hasn’t fit the mold of the meddling friend to me though. She didn’t do enough (anything) to break them up.
You will encounter lines from S3 and basic TB truths. Such as “Let’s f***”. I would rather that they played out the story he told in the beginning of the movie on TB but there’s still time. As well as “I bet in high school, you just dropped your friends whenever some guy called.” Hopefully Sookie gets over that. Hairflipper does favor TB Debbie.
Everything you want to know is in part 1 and 7 imo. Still a cute film to watch. If you want me to point you right to the TB money shot, the whole of Joan and Bernie’s conversation in the trailer, let me know. Bernie was right about Tara. I wonder if Joan will be right about Sam/Bill.
I always press the wrong reply button and stick it in the wrong place. I meant to press the button under the second vid. Could make my last post a reply to yours?
I’m not sure I can! LOl, I’ll try but unless someone comes in and gets between us it should be fine.
Thanks for the summary of the film. It does sound interesting in terms of Sookie/Tara. Does Debbie patronize Joan as much as Sookie does Tara? gahh that gets on my nerves. But yes, point me to the convo in the trailer please?
Actually she does. Joan tries your patience but Debbie blamed Joan for her relationship failing when it was sinking all on it’s own. I don’t know how they find these films because there’s actually a part in here where Joan sarcastically jokes about Debbie being missing locked up in the trunk of a car somewhere. But this part just does it for me. From 3:02 to 4:14
“It is 1888 in London, and the poor lead horrifying lives in the East End’s Whitechapel district. Harassed by gangs and forced to work the streets for a living, Mary Kelly (Heather Graham) and her small group of prostitutes trudge on through this daily misery, their only consolation being that things can’t get any worse.
Yet things somehow do when their friend Ann is kidnapped and they are drawn into a conspiracy with links higher up than they could possibly imagine. The kidnapping is soon followed by the gruesome murder of another woman, Martha, and it becomes apparent that they are being hunted down, one by one as the various prostitutes are murdered and mutilated post mortem.”
A scene with Sir William and his accomplice.
THE RIPPER: Why have you called me here?
Netley: It’s just….It’s just, you say three more have to be killed. I can’t take it, sir. It’s everywhere. It’s in all the papers. I’m just a simple chap, sir. I’m not a great man like you. I just don’t know where I am at anymore.
THE RIPPER/Sir William: There, there, Netley. I shall tell you where we are. We are in the most extreme and utter region of the human mind. A radiant abyss, where men meet themselves.
N: I don’t understand that. I don’t understand.
THE RIPPER: Hell, Netley. We’re in Hell. (Arlene SF)
There is also a scene where Sir William kills, who he thinks is Mary Kelly, and takes out heart of the last traitor. His eyes seem to turn completely black. The same way we fussed over Dawn’s position is not too far from how the officer describes MK (She was about 25 years old, and living in poverty at the time of her death) body at the crime.
Like I said, it’s anna’s fault *hee-hee*.
I don’t know! I had hoped she would pick it up and give it to Eric, and I still hope she did but who knows with Sookie. Sometimes she’s a thoughtful darling and other times she’s an inconsiderate bumble head.
I definitely think ‘the shroud’ will turn up again or we’ll get enough info to figure out who has it.
Whatever the dark side does, the light side does but with a different motivation. If the dark keep souvenirs, the light will keep relics.
Totally agreed. This is where discernment comes in. Where BL’s see moral equivalency between E/B because some of their acts look the same, they are failing to look into the true hearts of these characters and come to an understanding of who they really are.
This morning I discovered that Ed Wood was online. If you watched Plan 9, this is the payoff.
Thanks for finding it! I watched Sunday night and enjoyed it as much as the first time I saw it. “Nobody notices that stuff!” LOL.
Oh my, Renee did you norice all the diamond shapes on the windows, shadows?
How could anyone miss them?
Sam/Bill/Sookie
“Stanley Ipkiss is a bank clerk. Unfortunately, he is too nice for his own good and is a pushover when it comes to confrontations. He finds a mask that depicts Loki, the Norse night god of mischief. The mask leaves its wearer ridden of all inhibitions, giving them an alternate personality, doing things they would not normally do. When he puts it on, he becomes his inner, self: a cartoony romantic wild man but it also drives him to rob banks. A small time crime boss, Dorian Tyrel comes across the character dubbed “The Mask” and after Ipkiss’s alter ego indirectly kills his friend in crime, Tyrel now wants this green-faced goon destroyed.
Stanley later finds out the mask only works at night. When Dorian get hold of the mask he becomes a more demonic version of himself.
While wearing the mask he can also manipulate the actions of others and, not to anyone’s surprise, he makes everyone dance. haha All the while chasing after Tina, Dorian’s girlfriend, that he only has the guts to approach while wearing the mask. Until she falls in love with his true self.
Wow! I’ll have to let this one stew awhile.
Me too. This came on on after WoO and I was half awake through it. They mentioned TCM but Encore plays a good bit of the films TB includes. It certainly takes away part of the confusion of the show for me.
You know, this might be where the idea came from to have Bill and Sookie’s brows vanish so they become unrecognizable (H/T Anna
when they are acting totally out of character.
When Bill comes into Merlotte’s and passes himself off as mainstreaming
When Sookie rashly gives herself to a man she doesn’t know
When Bill’s at the hospital pretending to be a concerned bf
When Sookie has to go to someone else (Eric) for info about someone’s real motivations
Great point, Renee.
The question is quickly becoming ‘what is AB NOT referencing?’ I think this may end up being the shorter list, lol.
That crosssed my mind too, sunny.
Trust me you haven’t seen anything yet. But I’m waiting til January to rent it again and upload it myself. Must see. I have another I want to put up today but I don’t know if I should wait and not put so many up at once. It is officially my favorite line from a char. that I believe to be Tara. I still haven’t stopped laughing.
Don’t worry about putting up too much! Put up whatever you have whenever you want.
My fault? Looks innocent…
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Safe and Happy Holidays.
Thank you BG! Happy Christmas everyone.
Amil, what’s the significance of ‘About Last Night’? I saw it way back when but darned if the only thing I remember about it is Jim Belushi’s character telling Rob Lowe’s character that his problem was he was prettier than all the girls. LOL.
Ahh, Andy said that to Jason didn’t he?
This is in 7 parts.
“The film stars Rob Lowe as Danny and Demi Moore as Debbie (Who had a no strings relationship with her boss). The pair meet and engage in a torrid sexual relationship, but then slowly negotiate if there is anything more between them. Danny seeks advice from his loudmouthed friend Bernie who offers little more than outrageous tales of his randy exploits. Debbie confides in her best friend Joan, a bitter, straight shooting, single kindergarten teacher who has lost any hope of finding the right person on the dating scene especially after finding out that her latest was married and going back to his wife. Although Danny and Debbie talk, they have trouble communicating. The film ends on a coda that suggests the pair is still unsure as to where their relationship may be headed.”
This was referenced by Sam and Tara in 1.04 the day after their get together. Debbie and Joan switch off at times between Sookie and Tara but I would say that Debbie is mainly Sookie and Joan would be the *itch on wheels (movie quote) friend that Debbie’s boyfriend does not like. Danny would be Sam and Bernie could be Liam’s best friend. Oh yeah, Danny also opens a restaurant. Tara hasn’t fit the mold of the meddling friend to me though. She didn’t do enough (anything) to break them up.
You will encounter lines from S3 and basic TB truths. Such as “Let’s f***”. I would rather that they played out the story he told in the beginning of the movie on TB but there’s still time. As well as “I bet in high school, you just dropped your friends whenever some guy called.” Hopefully Sookie gets over that. Hairflipper does favor TB Debbie.
Everything you want to know is in part 1 and 7 imo. Still a cute film to watch. If you want me to point you right to the TB money shot, the whole of Joan and Bernie’s conversation in the trailer, let me know. Bernie was right about Tara. I wonder if Joan will be right about Sam/Bill.
I always press the wrong reply button and stick it in the wrong place. I meant to press the button under the second vid. Could make my last post a reply to yours?
I’m not sure I can! LOl, I’ll try but unless someone comes in and gets between us it should be fine.
Thanks for the summary of the film. It does sound interesting in terms of Sookie/Tara. Does Debbie patronize Joan as much as Sookie does Tara? gahh that gets on my nerves. But yes, point me to the convo in the trailer please?
Actually she does. Joan tries your patience but Debbie blamed Joan for her relationship failing when it was sinking all on it’s own. I don’t know how they find these films because there’s actually a part in here where Joan sarcastically jokes about Debbie being missing locked up in the trunk of a car somewhere. But this part just does it for me. From 3:02 to 4:14
“It is 1888 in London, and the poor lead horrifying lives in the East End’s Whitechapel district. Harassed by gangs and forced to work the streets for a living, Mary Kelly (Heather Graham) and her small group of prostitutes trudge on through this daily misery, their only consolation being that things can’t get any worse.
Yet things somehow do when their friend Ann is kidnapped and they are drawn into a conspiracy with links higher up than they could possibly imagine. The kidnapping is soon followed by the gruesome murder of another woman, Martha, and it becomes apparent that they are being hunted down, one by one as the various prostitutes are murdered and mutilated post mortem.”
A scene with Sir William and his accomplice.
THE RIPPER: Why have you called me here?
Netley: It’s just….It’s just, you say three more have to be killed. I can’t take it, sir. It’s everywhere. It’s in all the papers. I’m just a simple chap, sir. I’m not a great man like you. I just don’t know where I am at anymore.
THE RIPPER/Sir William: There, there, Netley. I shall tell you where we are. We are in the most extreme and utter region of the human mind. A radiant abyss, where men meet themselves.
N: I don’t understand that. I don’t understand.
THE RIPPER: Hell, Netley. We’re in Hell. (Arlene SF)
There is also a scene where Sir William kills, who he thinks is Mary Kelly, and takes out heart of the last traitor. His eyes seem to turn completely black. The same way we fussed over Dawn’s position is not too far from how the officer describes MK (She was about 25 years old, and living in poverty at the time of her death) body at the crime.
